希腊语作metoikos

古代希腊的外籍居民，包括解放的奴隶。在雅典，他们代表1/3的自由人口，但是没有完整的公民身分。他们缴纳少量的税，享受法律的保护和尽大部分的公民义务，包括资助公共基金、出资办理庆典节日、服兵役，但是不能与公民结婚和拥有土地。除斯巴达外，大多数城邦都有客籍民。

(Greek, metoikos) Resident foreigners, including freed slaves, in ancient Greece. In Athens they represented one-third of the free population but lacked full citizenship. For a small tax they enjoyed the protection of the law and most of a citizen's duties, including supporting public funds, financing festivals, and serving in the military, but could not marry a citizen or own land. They were found in most states, Sparta being an exception.
