20世纪最成功的惊悚片之一《沉默的羔羊》终于在它十周年纪念日前推出了续集，这一集故事仍然改编自作家托马斯·哈里斯的小说，讲述从高度戒备医院逃脱的汉尼拔医生积习难改，继续寻找他的“猎物”，不料踏入了“猎物”为他设下的圈套，反而成了曾在汉尼拔刀下侥幸活命的梅森（加里·奥尔德曼）的猎杀对象，无奈之下汉尼拔求助于克莱丽斯……多年前绝顶聪明的变态人魔汉尼拔克特协助年轻的联邦调查局探员克莉丝史达琳让一名疯狂的连环杀人犯伏法，但是他也凭著聪明机智逃到海外，现在他使用费尔博士的假名，在意大利佛罗伦斯担任一所美术馆的馆长，过著惬意的生活。
马森维杰是一个几乎跟人魔汉尼拔一样可怕的人物，他是一个罪大恶极的恋童癖，曾经强暴过自己的亲妹妹，年轻的时后逃狱，并且接受过人魔汉尼拔莱克特的心理治疗，但是人魔汉尼拔莱克特却害他半身瘫痪并且严重毁容，必须靠人工呼吸器维生。他拥有庞大的财产，并且不断收集各种不同的儿童，希望能把人魔汉尼拔引出来，进行恐怖的报复行动。连联邦探员史达琳也成为他手中的一个棋子……
幕后制作霍普金斯扮演的汉尼拔从声音到眼神都散发出一种难以言传的磁力，他有一种特殊的处理台词方法，尤其把每句话的最后一个音节变得玩味无穷。跟汉尼拔相比，克拉丽斯的“魅力”要逊好几筹，原因是所有主角都有几分“艺术化”，而她却是写实的。汉尼拔不忍心伤害她，而她也在千钧一发之际救他于危难。他们之间有一种惺惺相惜的情感，离正常的男女之情只差了一步。影片的构图、镜头调度、色彩的使用(尤其是蓝色和深红色)均属一流，华丽得让人觉得若把台词改成咏叹调这便是一部现成的歌剧。
花絮——当朱迪·福斯特决定不再继续扮演克拉丽斯之后，吉莲·安德森、凯特·布兰切特、希拉里·斯万克、安吉丽娜·朱莉和海伦·亨特都曾希望扮演这个角色，最先放弃的是吉莲·安德森，因为在她签署的电视剧《X档案》的合同中，已经写明不允许她再扮演联邦调查局特工。
