Waverton Station
Waverton StationWaverton Railway Station is a railway station on the North Shore railway line of Sydney's CityRail network. It services the suburb of Waverton, a largely residential area. Prior to 20 May 1929, Waverton was called Bay Rd station, the previous name applying because the station is crossed by Bay Road.
The single track line to Lavender Bay joins the main North Shore railway line at Waverton. There is a reversing siding and shunting neck beside the passenger platforms, leading to North Sydney Car Sidings.
The station received unusual attention in January 2007, when part of the Platform 2 face was seen to have an apparition of Jesus Christ on it. Church leaders are unconvinced but remaining open-minded about the apparition, which has been explained as a combination of worn away paint and moss. People have been visiting the station to see the appartiton, requiring station staff to ensure that no observer is hit by a passing train.
Waverton station itself is sited on a very sharp 200 m radius curve which creates a hazard for passengers not only because of the wide gap between the platform and the doors of the train, but also because the train crew cannot see both ends of the 8 car trains when the train is bound toward Chatswood . The crew responsible for the doors may close the doors while passengers are still trying to exit, or enter.
Platforms/ServiceThe station is served by four trains per hour for most of the time, with additional trains at weekday peak hours. The station has Easy Access, being served by two lifts.
Platform 1:
North Shore Line - all stations and limited stops services, and peak hour intercity services to Central; then to Blacktown, Penrith, Emu Plains, Riverstone, or Richmond via the Western Line, or to Eastwood or Hornsby via the Northern Line
Platform 2
North Shore Line - all stations and limited stops services to Lindfield, Gordon, Hornsby & Berowra; peak hour intercity services to Gosford and Wyong.
