详细介绍1988年组建，当时命名为Scum，乐队原来的风格是Grindcore（碾核）。当Johan Hegg加入后，风格转向了Melodic Death Metal（旋律死亡金属）。
1992年，乐队更名为Amon Amarth。Amon Amarth取自英国作家托尔金的小说《指环王》，Amon Amarth在小说中是指一个特定的地点，即位于中土世界的末日山。
1993年乐队发行了第一张Demo《Thor Arise》。
1994年乐队发行了第二张Demo《The Arrival of the Fimbul Winter》，限量1000张，在不到12个小时内销售一空。
2张Demo后，乐队终于签约新加坡著名极端金属公司Pulverised Records，并于1996年发行了首张MCD《Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds》，卖出6000张。
之后乐队签约老牌死亡金属公司Metal Blade Records，并于1998年发行了首张大碟《Once Sent from the Golden Hall》，大受欢迎。从此名扬世界！
