哈佛经典
《哈佛经典》，Harvard Classics也被称为Five-Foot Shelves，由哈佛大学第二任校长查尔斯•爱略特（CHARLES W. ELIOT）任主编，联合哈佛大学及美国其他名校100多位享誉全球的教授历时4年完成。该套丛书自1901年问世至今，畅销100年，成为西方家庭的必备藏书，是西方学生接受古代和近代文明教育的最权威读物。与其他名著丛书只是将人类史上百部或50部名著列入一个系列不同，《哈佛经典》旨在囊括人类有史以来至19世纪最优秀的社会科学和自然科学文献，以向现代读者展示人类观察、记录、发明和思想演变的进程。因此，《哈佛经典》是一套反映人类认识和探索世界的思想性读物：
◇ 从学科领域来看，它涵盖了历史、传记、哲学、宗教、游记、自然科学、政府与政治、教育、评论、戏剧、叙事和抒情诗、散文等各大学科领域；
◇ 从文化的代表性来看，它展现了希腊、罗马、法国、意大利、西班牙、英国、苏格兰、德国、美国等西方国家古代和近代文明的最优秀成果；也撷取了中国、印度、希伯来、阿拉伯、斯堪的纳维亚、爱尔兰文明最有代表性的作品；
