剧情介绍贾丝廷（珍妮佛·安妮斯顿饰）生活在德克萨斯州的一个小镇上，她和丈夫菲尔（约翰·雷利饰）结婚已经有七年了，但是他们的婚姻却像死水一样波澜不惊，菲尔是个瘾君子，他和好友布达（蒂姆·布雷克·尼尔森饰）整天沉醉在大麻的虚幻世界，那些毒品早已进入了菲尔的血液，并且导致了他的不育。

贾丝廷工作的地方～一个廉价的超市，最近雇用了一个小伙子，他的名字叫霍尔顿（杰克·吉伦希尔饰），霍尔顿这个名字是《麦田守望者》一书主角的名字，和书中主角的一样，霍尔顿也显得那么孤独、反叛、迷茫。

很快的两个孤寂的心灵走到了一起，小镇的角角落落都留下了他们爱的踪迹。可怕的是，他们的私情已经被菲尔的好友布达发现。布达利用匿名信，对他们进行无休止的勒索。而且，贾丝廷发现自己怀孕了……

本片在婚外恋题材中只能算平庸之作，只在某些时候我们会与女主角的无助与迷茫感同身受，但结局亦欠力度，看过《不忠》的观众必然对本片无限失望。安妮斯顿的表情始终木讷，倒还接近女主人公的处境，吉伦哈尔却给人巨大惊喜，没想到在《后天》里的大男孩的几年前他就有如此成熟的演出。
