於1960年6月24日出生在美国加州洛杉矶，是美国作曲人和隐退歌手
职业初期她于80年代初期出现在公众视野中。
她的HIT包括与Dennis Edwards合唱的Don't Look Any Further（1984，流行榜#72，R&B榜#2），Do You Want It Right Now?（1985，舞曲榜#3，R&B榜#63），其他还有I Want Your Soul，Everchanging Times（1987，成人抒情榜#30）和K.I.S.S.I.N.G."（1988，#97）
与Michael Jackson共事令Garrett声名鹊起的事情发生在1987年。那几年Michael Jackson（迈克尔杰克逊）在结束了Thriller,VictoryTour以及We Are The World等工作后一头扎进了筹备新专辑的工作中，Siedah Garrett成为了MJ的工作人员，这是Garrett之幸也是MJ之幸。Garrett的参与让MJ接下来的那张充满摇滚味道的专辑中多了一丝福音的风味。
1987年5月，MJ新专辑BAD首单I Just Can't Stop Loving You发售，这首由MJ作曲作词的情歌正是由Siedah和Michael合唱的。首单不负众望地登顶美国Billboard榜和英国UKCHART榜首，成为了BAD专辑的第一首冠单，为BAD今後无比强势的5首冠单开了个好头。
Siedah没有辜负MJ团队对她的看重。她和Glen Ballard合作为BAD专辑写了一首超级金曲Man In The Mirror。这首歌表达了对贫困人群的担忧，并提倡从改变自我开始改变世界。MJ将Siedah和Glen Ballard的作品演绎得十分精彩。Man In The Mirror发售于1988年2月，在没有MV支持的情况下在美国Billboard榜成功登顶，成为了BAD专辑在美国的第四只冠军单曲；虽然这首歌在英国榜只拿到了21位，但时间将这首金曲的价值充分体现出来，MJ逝世後，Man In The Mirror成了MJ在英国播放次数最高的单曲。该曲的现场更是极富感染力，MJ在1988年的格莱美上表演了这首歌。我们可以在这首歌的和声中清楚地听到Siedah的声音。而Siedah Garrett也因为这首经典歌曲永远被人们铭记。

职业生涯1991年，她成为了电视节目 America's Top 10 的主持人。
1995年，Siedah被邀请参与了Maysa Leak's (of the group Incognito) 首张独唱专辑的工作，她担任了歌曲Sexy的合作作词人并在和声中献声。
1996年，她加入了Brand New Heavies，参与了他们一张专辑的工作，并与1998年初离开乐队，专注於个人的歌曲创作。
Garrett於2004年作为伴唱和dancer参与了麦当娜的巡演。Garrett早期还参与过Madonna的一些作品如True Blue(1986)和Who's That Girl(1987)
2006年，Garrett开始为Bill Condon工作。Condon当时正在拍电影梦幻女郎（Dreamgirls）。由她填词的一首作品Love You I Do交给了Jennifer Hudson独唱，这首作品为Garrett带来了2007年奥斯卡最佳原创歌曲提名。在第50届格莱美上，Love You I Do让Garrett和合作者Henry Krieger赢得了两个奖项。
2009年，Michael Jackson突然离世。Siedah Garrett作为好友悲痛万分。她表达了对MJ命运的不满，并再次演唱了Man In The Mirror。
2010年，Siedah作为上海世博会主题曲Better City Better Life的主要创作人员之一在世博开幕会上演唱了主题曲。
上海世博会主题曲Better City Better Life2010上海世博会于2010.04。30晚举行开幕式。Siedah作为主题曲《Better City Better Life》的合作创作人和演唱者来到了世博园，向全世界演唱了这首歌
