1977年2月2日，Shakira出生于哥伦比亚的巴兰基利亚，其母是西班牙和意大利后裔，其父具有美国出生的黎巴嫩天主教徒背景。夏奇拉在年仅四岁的时候，即写下其生平第一首诗——《玻璃玫瑰（La Rosa De Cristal）》。七岁时，她如愿得到一台打字机作为礼物，并开始持续不停地写诗，而她写的这些诗最后都创作成了歌曲。在她八岁的时候，即创作了生平第一首歌曲——《你的墨镜（Tus gafas oscuras）》，歌词内容围绕着她的父亲以及纪念其车祸身亡的哥哥，其创作灵感来自于总是戴着墨镜掩饰丧子悲伤的父亲。
专辑介绍2000年，公司为Shakira推出了一张名为“MTV Unplugged”的专辑，其中的歌曲收录于99年为拉丁美洲区的电视网所举行的演唱会实况。而该场演唱会也于当年9月在拉丁美洲和美国境内强力播放，Shakira也借此获得了Grammy“最佳拉丁流行专辑奖”。
在站稳了拉丁和美国市场后，Shakira随即在2001年推出了众望已久的个人首张英语专辑《Laundry Service》。她一人挑起词曲创作、制作大任，尽情施展她与生具有的音乐才华，专辑发行首周便登上了Billboard榜Top3的位置。在商业上的巨大成功，使Shakira一跃成为世界级巨星。首支主打冠军单曲《Whenever Wherever》以安第斯山脉排笛、巴西鼓等传统乐器调味，奔放而野性十足。
