Bruno Mars在美国夏威夷的威基基(Waikiki)岛上出生并长大，是父母的六个孩子中的一个，而父母分别是波多黎各和菲律宾人。他出生在一个音乐家庭，给了他多元化的Reggae，摇滚，嘻哈和R＆B等多种风格。在很小的时候，Bruno Mars就开始模仿和表演例如猫王、迈克尔杰克逊等很具影响力的艺术家的歌曲。1990年他四岁的时候被MidWeek杂志精选为“小猫王”，之后在1992年于拉斯维加斯的蜜月影片中扮演小猫王。2003年，17岁的他于President Theodore Roosevelt高中毕业，之后搬到洛杉矶追求他自己的音乐生涯。
在成为一个成功的歌手之前，Bruno Mars已是一位知名的音乐制作人，参与了Flo Rida去年红翻天的《Right Round》以及2010年世界杯主题曲《Wavin' Flag》的写谱，还为Maroon 5和Sean Kingston等歌手写歌或监制。在《Nothin' On You》成功不久后，他就宣布在2010年5月11日推出自己的细碟《It's Better If You Don't Understand》，而个人首张专辑《Doo-Wops & Hooligans》也在筹备当中，准备在今年10月5日发行。同时来自新专辑的首支单曲《Just The Way You Are》已经在2010年7月19日发行，此曲MV也在今年9月8日发行，在美国Billboard Hot 100单曲榜上榜9周后终于不负重望夺得了冠军，并蝉联了4周冠军宝座。新专辑的二单《Liquor Store Blues》也在9月21日在iTunes Store开放下载。
