盖尔·桑德加德（Gale Sondergaard ）出生于1899年2月15日的美国明尼苏达州。1985年8月14日的美国加里福利亚州病逝。她是好莱坞影星，1936年因《风流世家》（Anthony Adverse）这部影片使她首次获得奥斯卡最佳女配角奖。此后片约不断，出演很多知名电影，但星途不畅，未能大红大紫。身为40年代全美妇女最崇拜的女星之一，盖尔不但有当时最时尚的品位和最高档的服装，她还有一座出身牛犊就得到的奥斯卡小金人。
个人经历捧得小金人
盖尔·桑德加德是银幕上最有天赋的女演员之一。曾就读于明尼苏达大学，嫁给导演Herbert J. Biberman，她的丈夫来好莱坞找工作，盖尔只好不情愿跟着他。虽然她曾在舞台上工作，有着丰富经验，但并没有成为演员的想法。当她改变想法时，被导演茂文·勒鲁瓦（Mervyn LeRoy）所发现，1936年出演《风流世家》（Anthony Adverse），被授予第一个奥斯卡奖，最佳女配角。茂文·勒鲁瓦原本还想推荐让她演《绿野仙踪》（The Wizard of OZ）中的邪恶女巫，盖尔拒绝了，因为她觉得不适合这个角色。然后，她与保罗·穆尼共同出演了《左拉传》（The Life of Emile Zola），盖尔印象最深的角色是1940年出演《香笺泪》（The Letter）中阴险奸诈、谋杀丈夫的蓓蒂·戴维丝。此后的演艺生涯继续攀升到最高峰。如《华雷斯》（Juarez 1939），《黑猫》（The Black Cat 1941）和《安娜与暹罗王》（Anna and the King of Siam 1946）。不幸的是，20世纪50年代“红色恐怖”歇斯底里，她被列入黑名单作证时，拒绝麦卡锡启发的“红色恐怖”，60年代终于回到电影圈。1983年出演《回响》（Echoes），这是盖尔最后一部作品，1985年因未公开的病情逝于美国加里福利亚州 Television 医院。
