剧情简介警官杰克·霍伊特被晋升到了洛杉矶警察局的毒品缉查部，经验丰富的黑人警官阿洛佐·哈里斯负责教杰克一些基本的规条和知识。阿洛佐在那些混乱的街区颇有威望，他仿佛天生具备某种奇特的侦查能力能够迅速找寻到罪案的蛛丝马迹，被同伴们称为“魔幻之眼”。这种神秘的“第六感”使他成为洛城最出色的警官之一。

幕后制作影片采用古典的三一律手法，把故事集中在菜鸟杰克·霍伊特向他拜师学习的第一天。华盛顿近年来明显在探索新的戏路，不断突破自己。这个角色巧妙地利用了他以往的“正”，使人觉得邪中有正，丰富了人物的层次感。他创造了一个坏得令人着迷、令人向往的魅力人物，一个玩弄法律于股掌之中的马基雅维里式执法者。尤其是最后的那一大段独白，简直就是专为他再度冲刺奥斯卡最佳男主角所设计的云梯。伊桑·霍克扮演的菜鸟也很称职，他是一个银幕上必不可少的理想主义者，但他的犹豫和摇摆却非常真实。
