water potential：水势是指同温同压同一系统中，一偏摩尔体积（V）水（含溶质的水）的自由能(μw）与一摩尔体积（V）纯水的自由能(μ0w)的差值(Δμw)。

Water potential is defined as the difference in free energy per unit volume,

between metrically-bound, pressurized, or osmotically- constrained water and pure water。

The measure of how likely a solution gains or loses water molecules from another solution is termed as itswater potential.

Ψw=(μw / Vw) - （μ0w／Vw) =(μw-μ0w)／Vw

=Δμw／Vw

A dilute solution,in which there are more free water molecules,has a higher water potential compared to a concentrated solution. More water will flow from the dilute solution to the concentrated solution.
