Research interests

1.Material solidification, bebavior and properties

2.Heat transfer, stress and solidification modeling

3.Materials processing, monitoring and diagnostics and quality control, especially as applied to continuous casting of steel

Professor Yao Man’s group conduct research in two aspects, one is material behavior such as heat, stress, and friction, and defects through modeling, developing experimental techniques and diverse micro-characterization experiments. Another aspect is monitoring metal processing by on-line measurement and data analysis etc. Recently we also focus on the combination of simulating calculations with on line measurement, and developing the techniques of real time monitoring for visualization and optimization of metal processing and prediction of the abnormal events.

The projects of our 16 members (14 graduate students in which 5 for doctorates and 2 faculty) are supported by National Science Foundation of China(NSFC), Ministry of Education of China(MOE), Science and Technology Foundation of Liaoning Province and Baosteel and Anshan steel company (both are famous iron and steel corporations in China)
