在美国南方的一个家庭里，他们以养蜂为其事业，在恬静的乡村生活中这个家庭所面临的问题却是其他人无法了解的，尤利面对他的家人就好像养育他的蜜蜂一样，他不辞辛劳，只为了能让家人过得更好。

Ulee是一名越战老兵，在佛罗里达州以养蜂为生。Ulee的家庭并不幸福，妻子病逝好几年，他至今未从悲痛中走出，儿子Jimmy在监狱里服刑，儿媳妇Helen离家出走，丢下两个女儿由Ulee抚养。所幸Ulee生性隐忍达观，生活还算平静稳定。Ulee从Jimmy口中得知，Helen由于与一群毒贩混在一起，在苦海中不能自拔。Ulee立刻出发去救出Helen，才发现原来控制Helen的人正是当年Jimmy的抢劫同伙，如果不把抢劫所得的十万美元还给他们，他们可能就会对Jimmy的两个女儿下手。与此同时，Ulee还必须帮Helen戒毒，幸好一位邻居，离异护士Connie向焦头烂额的他伸出了援手……
