幕后制作本片虽是罗勃哈蒙Robert Harmon的处女作，但是他对氛围的掌握，令本片成为相当成功的惊悚片，丝毫不输同样题材的“飞轮喋血”(斯蒂芬·斯皮尔伯格执导)，可以说是恐怖片中的杰作，将恐怖的感觉表现得淋漓尽致。本片在当年法国的Congac影展中曾抱走影评人奖及最佳影片大奖。
剧情简介Jim Halsey在路上搭载了一名陌生男子John Ryder，Jim Halsey原先认为漫漫长路有人相伴蛮不错的，但是John却主动透露他是一名连续杀人犯，Jim Halsey当然请他下车。原以为这段插曲就此结束，但是John却不肯放过Jim Halsey，他在高速公路上玩起猫捉老鼠的游戏，不断挑战John的神经，同时又将过往的骑士及警察大卸八块，并将凶杀线索指向Jim Halsey。Jim Halsey在不断挑衅中，决定对John展开复仇。
