生平

出生于纽约的布朗克斯区，十几岁时就已经开始用超8录像机制作简单的小电影。他正式进入电影界的作品是充斥着暴力情愫的《电钻杀手》和《四五口径女郎》。后者获得的好评为他赢得了另类导演的声望，也因此获得更大的影片预算、摄制资金和名演员（克里斯托弗·沃肯和哈维·凯托尔等）。但他依然喜欢扛着摄像机走进纽约最粗陋的街道，拍摄出诸如《坏中尉》之类成本低廉却又充满争议的作品。
