COP，即能量与热量之间的转换比率，简称能效比。譬如：单位1的能量，转换为单位0.5的热量，即COP为0.5。

COP值在ARI标准中，关于冬夏季循环效率提出了以下定义：

在冬季供热时，制热量（W）与输入功率（W）的比率定义为热泵的循环性能系数COP（coefficient of performance，W/W）;

在夏季制冷时，制冷量（W或Btu/h）与输入功率（W）的比率定义为热泵的能效比EER（energy efficiency ration, W/W 或Btu/W.h）

为不引起歧义，我们将冬季热泵循环性能系数和夏季热泵的能效比表达形式均采用COP（能效比）表示。

其计算公式为 ：εs=Q0/Ne=Q0/N0·ηs=ε0·ηs 。

Q0:制冷系统需要的制冷量（或制热量）

N0:制冷压缩机的理论功率

Ne:轴功率

ε0:是理论制冷系数（制热系数）

ηs:是总效率（绝热效率）

COP值(制冷效率)实际就是热泵系统所能实现的制冷量（制热量）和输入功率的比值，在相同的工况下，其比值越大说明这个热泵系统的效率越高越节能；因此在作制冷系统COP值比较之前，首先要确定各个热泵系统是否在相同的工况之下，然后再进行计算比较。

影响机组的COP的因素有以下几点：a、压缩机的性能系数b、热泵机组的系统匹配性：（所谓系统匹配是指：压缩机、冷凝器、蒸发器、节流机构和自控系统的匹配性能。）
