个人简介出生于新西兰一个小镇上的理查德从小就具备了喜剧细胞，1978年从牛津大学毕业后他开始写作剧本，第一份工作就是为四个系列的电视节目编写剧本，并荣获殊荣，使得他开始在业界站稳脚跟。1989年理查德撰写的电影剧本The Tall Guy被搬上了大银幕，但此时的理查德并没有将工作重心放在电影上，1992年的Mr Bean>（憨豆先生）系列的一炮打响不仅使得Rowan Atkinson成为世界公认的天才喜剧明星，更是让理查德一步步开拓了自己的事业范围，1994年的Four Weddings and a Funeral （四个婚礼一个葬礼）， 1999年的Notting Hill（诺丁山），2001年的Bridget Jones's Diary（BJ单身日记），2003年的Love Actually（真爱至上），2004年的Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason（BJ单身日记2）都将他的事业推向了巅峰，理查德的爱情片风格往往是轻松搞笑，但是其中也不乏宣扬了自己对于爱情和友情的看法。
