黛博拉·寇儿这位英国淑女最初是在姑妈的戏剧学校中学习舞蹈，17岁已登台表演芭蕾舞。後来她发现自己对戏剧更有兴趣，于是全力争取舞台剧的演出机会。40年代初期开始在英国片中亮相，可借角色一直受到外型的局限，使得蔻儿难以伸展。直到47年主演《黑水仙》才首次受人瞩目，并有了赴好莱坞演美国片的机会。53年她在《乱世忠魂》里饰演一位难耐寂寞的军官夫人，和丈夫的属下在海边大演激情戏，才获得转型演一些有趣而具诱惑性的女性角色。她的代表作尚有《国王与我》和《金玉盟》等，在69年演完《飞天英雄不了情》后退隐。
2007年10月16日罹患帕金森症的黛博拉·寇尔英格兰东部的沙福克去世，享年86岁。
