泥河湾阶
泥河湾阶（Nihewanian Stage）由全国地层委员会第四系工作组于1999年命名，阶名源自岩石地层单位“泥河湾组”，层型剖面选在河北省阳原县化稍营镇郝家台和下沙沟。泥河湾阶的底界生物识别标志尚待深入研究后定义。本阶内以含长鼻三趾马—真马动物群为特征，代表属种有：Postschizotherium chardini、Megantereon nihowanense、Proboscidipparion sinense、Palaeoloxodo namadicus、Elasmotherium、Equus sanmeniensis、Gazella sinensis、Coelo donta antiquitatis、Nyctereutes sinensis、Hyaena licenti等。另含一些小型哺乳类动物。属更新世早期。[1]
