Profile

The former midfielder took over at Highfield Road this summer as part of a five year deal as player-manager.

The experienced Scottish international, a then record signing for the Sky Blues when he joined for £3-million in 1996, has had an illustrious career playing for Leicester City, Leeds United, Motherwell and most recently Liverpool.

The 37-year-old left Coventry on a Bosman transfer in the summer of 2000 and secured a move to Anfield, where he played an integral part in securing the FA Cup, the Worthington Cup, UEFA Cup, Charity Shield and European Super Cup.

His lengthy career, which includes 57 caps for Scotland, also gained him national recognition when he was awarded an MBE for services to football in January’s New Year’s Honours List.

This season is the start of Macca’s first time in a managerial role and he will be looking to relive some of the glories he experienced as a player during his time with the Sky Blues.
