影片花絮Early in the movie, Ted mentions the Library Policemen. This is a reference to a story by Stephen King (who also wrote the source novel for the movie) that appears in his anthology, Four Past Midnight.
The monologue which Anthony Hopkins gives about the footballer who returns from retirement is from the novel "Magic", by William Goldman, who wrote the screenplays for this film as well as the movie version of 'Magic (1978)'. In addition, Mr. Hopkins played the lead role in "Magic" in 1978.

影片疏失Continuity: On the front porch, Bobby's newspaper switches from folded to unfolded between shots.
Anachronisms: The movie is clearly set in the summer of 1960, because Nixon has just been nominated for Republican candidate for Presidency. But when Bobby is reading the sports from the newspapers, he reads that Wills is going after Cobb's record. The year that Maury Wills challenged and eclipsed Ty Cobb's stolen base record was 1962.
Revealing mistakes: The shot is flipped at the end of the movie when Bobby is riding his Schwinn bike. The kickstand is on the right side and the chain on the left, opposite of where they should be. Also, note that one can clearly see the name "Schwinn" reversed on the side of the bike in this scene. This side of the bike should read "Black Phantom" when facing to the right.
Continuity: The money that Bobby throws at his mother changes from behind her feet to in front of her feet.
Continuity: In the scene where Harry Doolin and the other boys are bulling Bobby and Carol, Carol's hair clip changes in each shot.
Anachronisms: At one point, a school bus with a retractable stop sign attached to its side stops and then continues on. School buses did not start using that design until the 1980s.
Factual errors: Bobby took a picture of Carol with a Rolleiflex-type twin-lens camera which uses a film format of 6 x 6, sometimes also 6 x 7. Years later, he gives the picture to Carol's daughter, but it's clearly in a modern format of a 35 mm camera. It was supposed to be an old photo, not a reprint.

This is a gentle, innocent film about the reflections of an aging man (David Morse), who returns to his home town after the death of his best friend. Memories of life at age 11 floods back as it was a magical time that changed his life. Three 11 year old children (Anton Yelchin as Bobby, Mika Boorem as Carol, and Will Rothaar as Sully) share their lives. Carol & Bobby have a special affection for one another including sharing a kiss "by which all others will be measured". Bobby lives with his mother (Hope Davis), a bitter, vain woman who looks for pleasures for herself without sharing much with her son. Into their lives comes a mysterious new boarder (Anthony Hopkins), who befriends the boy but generates distrust from the mother. As time passes, the man and boy share confidences and special powers are revealed. The man warns the boy to be on the lookout for the "lowmen", who were seeking him. The two share a summer's adventures and come to love one another before the inevitable happens. A confrontation with a school bully (Timothy Reifsnyder) also changes everyone.
